The vet will ask a lot. Be ready.

Ever been asked "When did it start?" or "What did they eat?" and drawn a blank? Prepare these before you leave home and you'll have every answer.

What to bring

1. Vaccine and health records

Vaccine book, past test results and previous clinics. If they're in the Pettagu app, just show the vet.

2. Medicines and food

Current medicines, the last flea and tick treatment, and the food brand they eat.

3. Notes on symptoms

When it started, how often, whether they're eating, drinking, peeing and pooing normally.

4. A video or photo

If symptoms come and go, like coughing or limping, film them. The vet sees more than a description can tell.

5. A carrier or lead

Cats in a carrier, dogs on a lead. Other animals at the clinic can startle them.

Keep them calmer

  • Leave the carrier out at home before the visit, with a blanket that smells of home.
  • Ask the clinic whether your pet should skip food or water beforehand.
  • Afterwards, note the results, medicines and next appointment straight away.
